Grootfontein
Geography and history
Grootfontein is a city situated in the Otjozondjupa Province of Namibia. It has a total population of approximately 15 000 residents and its name is Afrikaans for “large spring”. This name was derived from the nearby hot springs which attracts many tourists. Grootfontein is located on the B8 national road.
This city hosts an annual agricultural exhibition which is the second largest annual entrepreneurial exhibition in the country. This exhibition has been running since 1911. About 24 km from Grootfontein tourists will find the Hoba meteorite which is the largest known meteorite in the world.
