Luderitz
Geography and history
Luderitz is a harbour town situated in the Karas Province of Namibia. It is located in the south western parts of the country and has a total population of approximately 14 000 residents. The town has been built around the Robert Harbour and Shark Island. This harbour town makes for great birdlife which include the following – penguins, seals, flamingos and ostriches.
Bartomoleu Dias discovered the bay area in 1487 on which this town has been laid out and the town was founded in 1883. There are many colonial-style buildings in Luderitz with loads of rich history.
