Oranjemund
Geography and History
Oranjemund (German for: "Mouth of Oranje") is a town of 4,000 inhabitants situated in the extreme southwest of Namibia, on the northern bank of the Orange River mouth. It exists to service the diamond industry. Oranjemund was only recently opened to the public. Oranjemund falls within the Sperrgebiet National Park and gemsbok, ostrich and jackal wonder freely through the streets!
The town was once privately owned by Namdeb and is now accessible on the national road from Rosh Pinah. Oranjemund is known as the town built on diamonds and when the diamond industry was in its prime the mining company De Beers provided a luxurious desert island for the 15 000 inhabitants. An 18-hole golf course a cinema and swimming pools were provided for the diamond workers and their families.
Activities
Oranjemund offers great spots for fishing and birding at the river mouth. The mouth of the Orange River is a RAMSAR Site protecting the unique wetland.

Oranjemund sports an immaculate 18 hole golf course along the green bank of the Orange River. After a round enjoy a drink in the club’s pub.
A number of banks, privately owned restaurants, bars & takeaways operate in Oranjemund, including modern supermarkets & retail stores that cater for the daily needs of residents & visitors.
