Cape Town - Sea Point
Geography and History
Sea Point in the Western Cape, South Africa, offers visitors a variety of pubs, music clubs, coffee shops, restaurants and a lovely promenade along which to walk. Nearby, closer to the Waterfront, is the famous square red and white lighthouse, one of the oldest lighthouses in the country.
Characterised by high-rise, luxury apartments, Sea Point offers plenty of urban entertainment. This bustling, cosmopolitan suburb never sleeps and visitors are warned to be mindful of their possessions despite surveillance cameras and a visible police presence.
Sea Point is divided by Main Road, with just about everything you need is found in this part of the city and it hums with activity. Up the slopes of Signal Hill, away from the Atlantic Ocean, lie large, private villas that pay millions for their views and proximity to the centre of Cape Town.
All along the ocean-side of the Sea Point promenade, the coastline has different characteristics. Some parts are rocky and almost inaccessible, other parts have open beaches. Sea Point beach adjoins an Olympic sized seawater swimming pool, another beach further towards the city is known as Rocklands.
