Cape Town - Somerset West
Geography and History
Somerset West is a town that lies in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is situated in the Helderberg area (formerly called Hottentots Holland), about 50 kilometres east of Cape Town and 10 kilometres from Strand.
Somerset West, Gordons Bay and Strand make up the Helderberg Basin. There is a combination of action packed Mountains, warm Blue Ocean and white sandy beaches. The slopes of the mountains are covered in vineyards or botanical gardens.
The Helderberg Nature Reserve was the brainchild of the Somerset West Rotary Club, who saw that a nature reserve would benefit our community and on 3 October 1964 it officially opened.

Activities
For the tourist, Cape Town offers a variety of activities and attractions, such as the Two Oceans Aquarium, Ratanga Junction Theme Park, Canal Walk Shopping Centre, craft markets, the BMW Pavilion, IMAX Theatre and numerous shopping centres.
Somerset West contains a number of sporting facilities including several golf courses. Designed by South African golfing champion, Gary Player, Erinvale golf course is indeed very special. The Golf World Cup took place here in 1996, when Somerset West got to see the familiar faces of many world class golf players.
